Having done some trekking around the Himalayas, the Karakoram, the Hindukush, the Pamirs, the Andes and Patagonia, I thought I’ve had enough of mountains, and I wasn’t expecting much from the Caucasus. But autumn colours as the backdrop to a range of snow-peaks? Definitely my first time. I was still speechless with over-excitement. I think I was even crying.
The Caucasus region in general did not leave me a very deep impression, but Georgia was certainly a wonderful surprise! The food was sublime, and everywhere I went, I was treated glass after glass of homemade wine, along with drunken performances of polyphonic singing. It was like heaven on earth. What more can you ask for?
